Topics and lines of research
After studying philosophy at the Sorbonne (Paris IV) and completing a Masters in comparative philosophy on The theme of illusion in Schopenhauer and Indian philosophy, in 2015 I defended a doctoral thesis in social anthropology, Kāmākhyā, the goddess and sexuality in Assam, at EHESS under the supervision of Francis Zimmermann. My research focuses on the regions of North-East India and is based on ethnographic surveys conducted since 2003 in Assam around the temple of the goddess Kāmākhyā, whose name (ākhyā) means Love (kāma). After a two-year period of fieldwork for my PhD, then multiple stays at regular intervals, the translation of numerous Sanskrit and Assamese texts allowed me to pursue my work in anthropology while practising philology. This culminated on the one hand, in an anthropology combining sexuality and kinship, which draws on contemporary debates about kinship (book in progress), and on the other hand in an anthropology of ecological, historical and linguistic knowledge of North-East India. My fieldwork in Assam allowed me to produce data collected thanks to the communication skills and "arts of speaking" acquired by local actors to hand down knowledge about natural resources, procreation, the family and sexuality. The start of a reflection to explore the impact of globalisation on marriage, sexuality and gender in India has led me more recently to work on trans-identity in Assam and Manipur.
